چکیده

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the importance litterfall as a link in biogeochemical cycling certain elements (C, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn) silver birch stands growing on post-arable soils under temperate climatic conditions (Poland). covered three sandy (21, 29, 40 years old) loamy (15, 33, 41 old). Litterfall collected during 2020–2021 analysed using standard procedures. Elemental contents were determined also green leaves from tree crowns early summer determine intensity retranslocation. total production varied 2576 5293 kg ha −1 , depending stand year. These values are typical forests. positively correlated with age. Leaves made up major fraction, followed by twigs. Silver generally rich nutrients compared many other species for zone. Nutrient fluxes soil upper limits reported literature. It may partially be an effect history these stands. Large via important context high nutritional demands studied species. This showed that strongly retranslocates K senescing leaves, whereas Zn accumulated organs.

Physiological responses of Betula pendula Roth growing in polluted areas

Plant functioning is affected by drought, extreme temperatures, heavy metal pollution and other unfavorable environmental conditions. High intensity of stress factors can be lethal to sensitive organisms or significantly decrease their condition. Intensification of stress factors is observed especially in urban and industrial areas. During the vegetative season plants purify the air and soil, d...

Genetic transformation of silver birch (Betula pendula) by particle bombardment.

We used in vitro callus and shoot cultures as target material for genetic transformation of silver birch (Betula pendula Roth) by particle bombardment. Cultivation of in vitro shoot cultures before particle bombardment and a long selection period, combined with a high concentration of selective agent after bombardment, led to the production of transformed plantlets that were stable, and no esca...

Effect of Polluted Soil and Fertilisation on Growth and Physiology of Silver Birch (Betula pendula Roth.) Seedlings

One-year-old seedlings of silver birch (Betula pendula Roth.) were grown in pots filled with a soil substrate that originated from an area polluted by a phosphate fertiliser factory and characterised by a high soil Al level and low Ca/Al ratio or with a substrate from an area regarded as free from toxic pollution. In addition the effect of fertilisation with a mixture of nutrients was evaluated...

Essential Oil of Betula pendula Roth. Buds

The essential oil of Betula pendula Roth. buds was obtained using both hydrodistillation and microdistillation techniques and their chemical compositions were analyzed using both gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Overall, more than 50 compounds were identified representing 80% and 92% for hydrodistillation and microdistillation, respectively. The main com...
